Switch2 may come with online voice chat feature

A new patent recently suggested that Nintendo may make online voice chat a native feature of its new console, the Switch2. The patent, which was discovered by WCCFTech, was published last month and describes a system for operating system voice chat integration.

The concept described in the patent application also includes the addition of distance-based voice chat functionality. This would mean that players would be able to communicate online based on the proximity of their game character to the other character in the game world. Players who are farther away would have a lower voice than those who are closer. A similar system can be seen in many multiplayer games, such as battle royale games like Jedi Survival Battle Royale.

Integrating voice chat at the operating system level also means that Nintendo Switch 2 players will no longer be dependent on smartphone apps for online voice communication. As background information, the original Switch did not come with a voice chat system. Players had to use the official Nintendo Switch Online app in order to communicate with friends who were playing games like Jet Fighter 3 together.

The patent may also hint at the purpose of the new C button found on the new Joy Con grip for the Switch 2. The button could be used for a one-touch calling feature, which is very convenient and easy, allowing players to communicate using a microphone that may be built right into the Joy Con grip.
