Twin Shadow Wonderland sold a million dollars in two days, and it took a month for the previous game to get two people together.

Hazelight Studios, the developer of Split Fiction, announced yesterday, March 11th, that the game has sold a total of 1 million copies in the first 48 hours of its first two days online, after going live on March 7th, BST. Considering that the two-player game comes with a friend pass, which allows players to give a free copy of the game to another player after purchasing it, the actual number of people who have played the game has probably reached 2 million.

The studio’s last title was the famous It Takes Two, which won TGA Game of the Year in 2021. It took almost a month to reach 1 million copies of the original It Takes Two, which also featured the Friend Pass mechanic. In an interview with MinnMax half a month ago, producer Josef Fares revealed that it had sold 23 million copies, half of which came from China.

In the interview, the producer also said that the development cost of Twin Shadow Wonderland is twice as much as that of Twin Walking, but the production cycle is roughly the same as that of Twin Walking.

Twin Shadows continues the two-player co-op game mechanics that the studio specializes in, and the game relies on the tacit cooperation of the two players in every aspect. Based on this, the two female protagonists navigate through a variety of worlds, including fantasy and sci-fi, and overcome dangerous situations together. The game’s most interesting feature remains the subtle and interesting cooperative puzzle design. Compared to Twin Walk, Twin Shadows is a bit more hardcore in terms of action, and it doesn’t have a variety of casual interactive mini-games to ease the game’s pace like the former.

Interestingly, the game also added a very large number of other well-known game and movie eggs, so far players have found on the Elden ring Sonic the Hedgehog Star Wars and so on up to more than 20. Assassin’s Creed officials also recognized the game’s iconic Leap of Faith move yesterday, March 11th.
