In recent years, board games have seen a global resurgence in popularity. According to a report by Statista, the global board game market is expected to generate $9 billion in revenue by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3 42 from 2025 to 2029. The U.S. market revenue is expected to be even more optimistic compared to the world, leading the market in 2025 with approximately $2.869 billion in revenue.
Meanwhile, in the U.S. board game market, the demand for strategy games is growing among both casual and core players, and online video games have also become a new growth point for offline board games, with MONOPOLY GO, a mobile game based on the classic board game MONOPOLY Monopoly, achieving remarkable success.
According to Business of Apps, the digital version of MONOPOLY GO generated more than $135 million in revenue in the first four months after its launch in April 2023, and reached more than $1 billion in cumulative IAP in-app purchase revenue in less than seven months, one of the fastest handheld games ever to reach this milestone.
Recently, 36 Krypton contacted David, an entrepreneur, who, after conducting market research, hoped to launch The Legend of Titans, a tabletop card game created by his team, for distribution overseas.
The card game is based on ancient Greek mythology, a blend of familiar myths, characters, and weapons from Europe and the United States, with gameplay adapted and innovated from the framework of the well-known card game bang! and the Chinese board game Sanguo Kill, which David and his roommate, who was in college at the time, completed.
Legend of the Gods was copyrighted in the U.S. in 2012, and the design of the cardboard version was completed. In the current edition, there are 40 character tiles, 20 magic tiles such as Zeus, Athena, Poseidon, and 20 weapon tiles such as the Trojan Horse, Pandora’s Box, and 20 weapon tiles. The first edition was released with 20 characters, 10 magic cards, and 10 weapons, and the second edition was released a year later with 10 more characters, 5 more magic cards, 5 more weapons, and the introduction of the American favorite, the maze game, based on feedback from the beta testing process.
After completing the design of the cardboard version, David invited nearly 3,000 people to test the card game, most of whom were Americans, and the rest of whom came from countries all over the world, such as the United Kingdom, Germany, France, South Korea, Malaysia, etc. After testing, more than 70% of the players were interested in the game. After the beta test, more than 70 players expressed interest in purchasing the game, saying that the gameplay, character skills, and backgrounds were all new to them. For those who have experience in gaming, this game model has completely changed their thinking,” David said. David said.
Since then, there have been no official releases or video games for Legend of the Gods.
Today, David says that the story of ancient Greek mythology has a high level of acceptance around the world, especially among users from Western cultures, which is an advantage of our product. He also hopes that there will be a chance to adapt his card game into an online video game for players in Europe and the United States, for whom this card game may be more attractive.
